Originally from Birmingham, Alabama, Sydney Y. Rucker is a graduate of Agnes Scott College (Decatur, Georgia). She obtained a Master of Arts in Teaching, specializing in Secondary History Education, from Emory University (Atlanta, Georgia). Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. in Higher Education and Student Affairs at Indiana University (Bloomington, Indiana).
As a 2004 Gates Millennium Scholar, she not only gained access to invaluable educational experiences, but also worked to help others gain access to higher education. As a Gates Millennium Scholarship Ambassador, she has worked with numbers of high school students and their families to inform them about the benefits of the Gates Millennium Scholarship. Her drive and work ethic were strengthened as a scholar-athlete, playing volleyball for both Agnes Scott College and American University in Dubai. After six years of volunteering and helping at-risk students with the application process, Sydney created EWR Educational Consulting, LLC in 2009. EWR specializes in the holistic preparation of students for college and life thereafter.
Sydney sincerely values the personal and professional development that comes through participation in professional organizations. She is a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), the Southern Association for College Admission Counseling (SACAC), and the Overseas Association for College Admission Counseling (OACAC). She is also a member of the American Education Finance Association (AEFA) and the American Association of University Women (AAUW). To facilitate her continued development as a progressive and successful entrepreneur, Sydney is a member of the National Association for Female Executives (NAFE) and 85 Broads.
Service, both community and professional, has always been a high priority in Sydney’s life. She provides free college preparation seminars for students and their families. Sydney’s professional service to the field of education is demonstrated via her role as a community representative for HECA. Sydney aims to change the world one person at a time through providing admissions expertise with a personal touch.
